The basement floor drain is the lowest opening in your plumbing. When the main sewer line can't carry water away, that's where it shows up first — so a backup there is an early warning worth taking seriously.
Call Now — (719) 639-4137Request ServiceA floor drain rarely clogs on its own; very little goes into it. When water rises out of it, the problem is almost always downstream in the main sewer lateral. Every fixture in the house drains through that one pipe, and when it's restricted, water backs up to the lowest point it can find.
We clear the main line from the cleanout, then run a camera inspection to see why it blocked. Roots or heavy grease usually call for hydro jetting; broken or sagging pipe may need a spot repair. You see the footage before any recommendation.

The washer dumps a lot of water fast. If the main line is partly blocked, that surge can't get past the blockage and comes out the lowest opening in the house — usually the basement floor drain.
Most of the time it's the private sewer lateral between your house and the city main, which is the homeowner's responsibility. A camera inspection shows exactly where the blockage is.
Treat it as sewage. Keep kids and pets away, wear gloves and boots, and disinfect surfaces after cleanup. Stop running water upstairs until the line is cleared.
A backwater valve stops sewage from the city main flowing back into your home. It does not fix a clog in your own lateral, which is the more common cause.
